Cook County Morgue
Problem: To increase storage capacity and better organize the cooler.
Solution: Fully customized storage based on facility specifications.
Benefits: Improve ergonomics, become more organized and increase capacity.
Product Used: Rapistak PALLET-STAK Stacker Storage Management System.
The Cook County Morgue in the state of Illinois needed to better organize their cooler storage and asked Rapistak if we could help. They wanted to be able to handle a maximum of 250 bodies within the cooler storage and have a lifting device to transfer the trays from the racking to the carts. Their goal was to reduce back strains and to create a more organized method of cooler storage.
With our PALLET-STAK® Stacker Storage Management System we eliminated the horizontal beams of the rack and replaced them with side angle shelves to support the stainless steel trays. Using the maximum height of the cooler we were able to build in 4 tray levels in each section of rack. The stacker crane was equipped with 6 foot long pallet forks and was fully motorized, so a single operator is now able to store or retrieve the body trays as needed.
By installing a PALLET-STAK® Stacker Storage Management System the Cook County Morgue was able to reduce personnel injuries, decrease access times, better organize the body trays and increase storage space within the same cooler footprint.
Nanshan America
Problem: The need to store 1,991 extrusion dies.
Solution: Fully customized storage based on facility specifications.
Benefits: Increased productivity, space savings, and improved mobility functions.
Product Used: Rapistak PALLET-STAK Stacker Storage Management System.
Nanshan America is the newest integrated aluminum casting and extrusion facility in North America. Utilizing the latest technology in equipment and processes, their 600,000 square foot manufacturing facility is capable of producing 150,000 tons of extrusion ingot and 50,000 tons of extruded product annually.
Nanshan America approached Rapistak Corporation with a monumental task of storing 1,991 dies used in extruding aluminum. The dies ranged from 14" to 24" in diameter and weighed from 1,000 to 2,000 pounds each. After some deliberation Rapistak decided the dies should be supported using side angle shelf rack. The system consisted of 155 sections of rack, 18'-0" high and two fully motorized stacker cranes with man aboard cabs. Each stacker was equipped with a fork mounted camera and motorized adjustable pallet forks. Two wire mesh belt conveyors were used to transfer the dies from the PALLET-STAK Stacker Crane Management System to and from the production floor. Each die was given a number and a designated location within the PALLET-STAK System for ease of storage and retrieval.
By using Rapistak's PALLET-STAK Stacker Storage Management System, Nanshan America was able to create a safer storage facility, increase storage in less space, increase efficiency of mobility functions, and improve organization.
Pratt & Whitney Canada
Problem: Find a new way to store process carts to clear up floor space.
Solution: Fully customized storage based on facility specifications.
Benefits: Increase floor space, better organization, easier access to carts.
Product Used: Rapistak PALLET-STAK Stacker Storage Management System.
Pratt & Whitney Canada is a Canada based aircraft engine manufacturer. Pratt & Whitney Canada's headquarters are in Longueuil, Quebec, just outside Montreal. It is a division of the larger U.S. based Pratt & Whitney, itself a business unit of United Technologies. United Technologies has given Pratt & Whitney Canada a world mandate for small and medium aircraft engines while Pratt & Whitney's U.S. operations develop and manufacture larger engines.
Working with our distributor Manu-Stor in Quebec Canada, Pratt & Whitney Canada needed to find a way to clear up floor space by storing process carts vertically. So Manu-Stor brought the concept to Rapistak. After reviewing the application our sales engineering staff suggested using a PALLET-STAK Stacker Storage Management System. The application consisted of a single aisle stacker system, with a rack height of 17'-4 1/2", three levels high, to store 24 Process Carts.
By using Rapistak's PALLET-STAK Stacker Storage Management System, Pratt & Whitney Canada was able to save 66% of ground level floor space, increase storage in less space, increase efficiency of mobility functions, and improve organization.
